The Cleveland Clinic has published new research suggesting the sweetener erythritol is associated with increased stroke and heart attack. Published in the journal “Nature Medicine,” researchers studied over 4,000 people, both here and in Europe, and found that not only does erythritol add to health complications and even death, but it also contributes to blood clots. So, how serious is this news? Senior study author Dr. Stanley Hazan reveals, “Cardiovascular disease builds over time, and heart disease is the leading cause of death globally.”

Truvia, stevia, swerve, monk fruit are among the products that use this ingredient.
