Jimmie Allen Used Songwriting As Therapy (VIDEO)

How someone becomes a songwriter is different for each artist. For Jimmie Allen, songwriting started through a frustration, and turned into a form a therapy.

As a kid Jimmie says he stuttered really bad, it took him quite some time to get words out - so instead of talk he would just write down how he felt. He recalls a time in second grade when he was trying to express his feelings to a teacher and she said, "don't worry about it, just write it down."

Though out the years he would continually write down how he was feeling, and that became his therapy. Everyday he would just write down those emotions and feeling that he was going through. As he started listening to music more, he realized that songs were just people expressing how they were feeling. The next step was trying to figure out how to tie in his feelings, with music.

After he made the move to Nashville songwriting changed even more. When he first started writing with people in Nashville he was intimidated, because some of the best songwriters in the world are there. Once he moved past those fears, he was able to channel the feelings from Jimmie in the second grade, and tell stories that he felt like people would relate to.
